Summer is almost over and with the end nearing, that means little ones are going back to school and Fall is just around the corner!
I’m so excited to share this month’s back to school & fall chubby bunnies! They’re a mix of all the things that remind me of this time of year. First up, we’re headed back to school, and we have our pencil and glue stick bunny! Don’t forget to bring an apple for the teacher! This one is not only perfect for back to school but it’s a great segway into Fall! And lastly, we have the sweetest one of all…a fire roasted s’more!
The base for the bunny is the same as the one that can be FOUND HERE. This post is only sharing the modifications needed to make each character. You will need to reference back to the original Chubby Bunny Crochet Pattern when crocheting each piece. Under each character I have listed the specific materials needed to complete each design.
I hope you have fun making these Back to School Bunnies!

- When the number comes AFTER the stitch, such as Sc 2, this means to place one single crochet into the next two stitches.
- When the number comes BEFORE the stitch, such as 2 sc, this means to place two single crochet stitches into the same stitch.
- If there are two stitches listed in between commas, such as “Sc, hdc dc, sc”, this means to place both a hdc and dc together in one stitch.

Apple Bunny
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors Cherry, Forest, White and Soft Rose, Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn in the color Brown. For a green apple, I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in the color Grass.
- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Follow the entire pattern exactly as stated, making all the pieces in Cherry. See below for notes on the body and how to indent it to make it look like an apple.
The only modification was the placement of the eyes. I positioned mine between rounds 11&12, 6 stitches apart.
For the body- Fasten off and leave a long tail. Close the piece but do not secure the tail. Instead, take the yarn needle and yarn tail and insert it into the middle of round 24. Weave it up through the body to the magic ring. Pull through and gently tug to make the bottom indent. Tie a knot several times to hold the indent in place. For the top indent, insert the needle right outside of the magic ring. Weave the needle through to the bottom of the apple and pull through. Give another gentle pull to make the top indent. Secure with a knot and hide the tail inside the apple.
Assemble the arms, legs, and tail exactly as the pattern states. For the ears, position them between rounds 3-7. For the little glint on the side, take white yarn and stitch a vertical line over rounds 6&7.
Stem
Using brown yarn,
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
R2-5: Sc 6.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Do not stuff.
Attach the stem to the top of the apple, making sure to cover the knot created from before. Secure and hide the tail inside the apple.
Leaf
Using forest yarn,
R1: Ch 7, then starting in the 2nd ch from hook sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc. (6 sts)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew the leaf to the top of the apple, right where the stem and apple meet.
Glue Stick Bunny

- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern

Follow rounds 19-24 of the original pattern, using orange yarn to complete the body.
Add safety eyes between rounds 12&13, 6 stitches apart.
Assemble the arms and legs exactly as the pattern states. For the ears, position them between rounds 3-7. Make sure to keep them within the orange yarn section. For the tail, position it between rounds 19-22, keeping it within the orange yarn section.
Wavy Line
Using clear blue yarn, Ch 60. (Or enough to make it around your bunny)
Use straight pins to get an idea of how to place the chain piece. You’ll want to start at the back of the body above the tail. Using hot glue, apply a TINY amount then press the chain piece onto the body. You’ll want to go slow and only add a tiny amount of glue at a time! Don’t rush!
Pencil Bunny
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors Thunder, Pale Gray, and Soft Rose, Michaels Craft Smart Yarn in the color Taupe and Mustard, Premier Basix Worsted in the color Taffy.

- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Hot glue gun
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Ears- Follow the pattern and make 2 ears in Brown.
Arms, Legs, and Tail- Follow the patterns and pieces in White.
Body
Follow rounds 1-8 of the original pattern, using brown yarn. Keep the brown yarn on hold until after round 15.
R9a: Insert the hook into the first BACK LOOP of round 8, lay the white yarn over and pull through, then ch 1. Sc into the same space as the join. Sc in the BLO for the remainder of the round.
(Note- the ch 1 will not count as a stitch.)
Follow rounds 10-15 of the original pattern, using white yarn. Pause here to add the drizzle.
Note- When two stitches are listed together (ex. hdc dc,) this means to place them together into the same space. When the number comes after the stitch (ex. Sc 2) this means to place one single crochet into the next two spaces.
R9b: Working in the FLO, Sc 3, ch 3 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 2 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc 3, ch 5 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 4 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc 2, hdc dc, dc hdc,
Sc 2, ch 3 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 2 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.

Sc 2, sc hdc, hdc sc, sc 3, sc hdc, hdc sc, (this is the area that should go right above the safety eyes)
Sc 2, ch 3 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 2 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc 4, ch 4 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 3 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc 2, hdc dc, dc hdc,
Sc 2, ch 5 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 4 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc 3, ch 3 then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc across 2 times, sl st into same space as last sc made before starting the chain.
Sc, hdc dc, dc hdc, sc. Fasten off and weave in the end.
Add safety eyes between rounds 12&13, 6 stitches apart. There is a section that has an extra wavy portion (with no drips) that makes a perfect spot to add the eyes.
Follow rounds 15-24 using white yarn to complete the body.
I like to pin the drips into place and then remove them once I start gluing. Using hot glue, apply a TINY amount to the drizzle and wavy parts then press onto the body. You’ll want to go slow and only add a tiny amount of glue at a time! Don’t rush!
Assemble the arms, legs, and tail exactly as the pattern states. For the ears, position them between rounds 3-7.

Graham Crackers
Top – Make 2

R1: Ch 19, then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, and in both loops leaving the back bump, sc across 18 times. (18 sts) Ch 1 and turn.

R16: Sc around the entire edge of the piece. First, sc into the same space as the last sc from row 15. Then sc 13, inc in the bump, sc 16 (this will be the bumps left from row 1), inc in the last bump, sc 14, inc in the corner, sc 17. (67 sts)
Fasten off and leave an extra long tail on one piece. On the other piece, weave in all ends.
Bottom- Make 2
Using taupe yarn,
R1: Ch 19, then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, and in both loops leaving the back bump, sc across 18 times. (18 sts) Ch 1 and turn.
R2-15: Sc 18. Ch 1 and turn after each row, except row 15.
To assemble the graham crackers
Do this for both sets of graham crackers.
Take the two pieces and place them back-to-back, making sure to line the stitches up evenly. Make sure the piece with the long tail is the one closest to you.
With the yarn needle and the long tail, weave the needle under both loops of the stitch (the “V”) in the corner, on the piece in the back and then under both loops on the stitch in the corner on the front piece. Move over to the next stitch on the left and weave the needle under both loops of the stitch. Then continue weaving under both loops of the stitch on the back piece. Move over to the next stitch on the left and repeat the weaving technique.
You’ll notice a running stitch starting to form as you weave the needle back and forth like this. Doing this method creates a clean line on the cracker.
For the top graham cracker, weave the needle down to the opening for the ears. Weave the needle under both loops of the stitch, then weave to the back and go through the bumps. Weave the needle back to the front and go under the loops on the next stitch. Do this for both openings. Secure the yarn with a knot and hide in between the pieces.

Now the fun part! Adding the graham crackers to the bunny!
For the top cracker, you’ll want to gently pull the ears through the opening. Because the hole is much smaller, just take your time, being careful not to pull too hard. Just a little shimmying works to get the ear through!
For the bottom cracker, you have a few different options. You can sew it into place on the bottom of the bunny using taupe yarn. You could also hot glue it into place. Or you can pin it to the bunny. This last method is not suggested if the bunny is going to be played with. I decided to hot glue mine into place because I find that to be much easier! Choose whichever method you prefer!
