Happy St. Patrick’s Day! March bunnies have arrived, just in time to celebrate a very exciting month! This collection of crochet bunnies isn’t just about St. Patrick’s Day though! While a little amigurumi Leprechaun and a pot of gold was an absolute must, I’m super excited to add two other characters to the mix.

March is very special to me because A Menagerie of Stitches turns 8! I can hardly believe it!! The first amigurumi pattern I ever published was for a unicorn, so I knew I had to make a bunny version! We’re calling it a Bunicorn! But that’s not all, did you know that March is National Crochet Month?! When I discovered this news, I immediately sketched up our fourth bunny. Every crocheter is going to need this little ball of yarn, complete with their favorite crochet hook!
The base for these crochet St. Patrick’s Day bunnies is the same as the one that can be FOUND HERE. This post is only sharing the modifications needed to make each character. You will need to reference back to the original Chubby Bunny Crochet Pattern when crocheting each piece. Under each St. Patrick’s Day character, I have listed the specific materials needed to complete each design.
I hope you have fun making these St. Patrick’s Day Patterns!
Let’s get crocheting!

Leprechaun Bunny

Materials Needed:
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors Fern, Black, and Soft Rose, Michaels Craftsmart in the colors Taupe and Mocha, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in the colors Kelly Green and Terracotta
- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Hot glue gun
- Yellow felt
- Pet slicker brush
- Optional- Gold Wire Doll Glasses (Mine are from Hobbii and are size 67mm. Find them here)
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Ears- Follow the pattern and make 2 ears in Taupe.
Arms and Legs- Follow the pattern and make 2 legs in Mocha. For the arms, follow the pattern listed below.
Tail- Follow the pattern and make the tail in Kelly Green.
Body
Follow rounds 1-12 of the original pattern, using taupe yarn or any other skin tone. Change to fern yarn after completing round 12 then continue with what is stated below. Fasten off the taupe yarn.
R13-16: Sc 42.
Add safety eyes between rounds 11&12, 6 stitches apart. For the nose, omit the vertical line in the center.
Change to kelly green yarn,
Follow rounds 17-24 of the original pattern to complete the body.
Cut a small yellow rectangle for the belt buckle. Use hot glue to attach it to the body, placing it over round 17.
Ears- Sew the ears between rounds 5-9. Spacing them further apart like this makes room for the hat.
Arms and Legs- Sew exactly as the pattern states.
Tail- Sew the tail between rounds 17-21.
Arms
Using taupe yarn or any other skin tone,
R1: 5 sc in magic ring. (5 sts)
R2: Inc in each st around. (10 sts)
R3: Sc 10.
Change to fern yarn,
R4-6: Sc 10.
R7: Sc 4. Do this by lining up the stitches on both sides of the arm then inserting the hook under both stitches. Sc as normal.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Leave arms unstuffed.
Beard
Using terracotta yarn,
R1: Ch 12, then starting in the 2nd ch from hook, and in both loops leaving the back “bump”, sc across 11 times. (11 sts) Ch 1 and turn.
R2: Dec, sc 7, dec. (9 sts) Ch 1 and turn.
R3: Dec, sc 5, dec. (7 sts) Ch 1 and turn.
R4: Dec, sc 3, dec. (5 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With terracotta yarn, join the yarn in the corner back “bump”. Insert the hook under the bump, lay yarn over the hook and pull through the bump, then chain 30. Join into the other corner back “bump” of the beard piece and make a slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Using a pet slicker brush, brush just the beard piece until you’re happy with how fuzzy it is. Make sure to not brush the chain piece. Use sharp scissors to trim and shape the beard if needed.
Tip! Before attaching the beard to the body, use straight pins to position the beard so you know where it should go. The beard will go right under the safety eyes at round 13. The chain piece will go in an arch up to the magic ring of the body.
Using either a strand of terracotta yarn, or hot glue, sew or glue the beard to the body. Only sew the longest part of the beard into place, leaving the pointier part to hang. Attach the chain piece to the body. When adding glue to this part go SLOW and add just a tiny bit of hot glue at a time. Less is definitely more in this case so take your time.
Hair
Cut 3 strands of terracotta yarn, each measuring 6 inches long.
For the hair, you’ll want this to be centered between the ears. With a smaller crochet hook, insert the hook from the back to the front under round 4. Fold one piece of yarn in half, lay the middle of it over the hook and pull the hook through, but not all the way. With the loop on one side and the two tails on the other, pull the tails through the loop and pull to tighten.
Repeat for the other two strands.
With a yarn needle, pick apart each strand of yarn. I found doing this makes it SO much easier to brush the yarn and doesn’t pull the stitches as much.
Once all the yarn is separated, use the pet slicker brush to comb through all the yarn. Trim to desired length, if needed.
Hat
Using kelly green yarn,
R1: 5 sc in magic ring. (5 sts)
R2: Inc in each st around. (10 sts)
R3: *Sc 1, inc* 5 times. (15 sts)
R4: *Sc 2, inc* 5 times. (20 sts)
R5: In BLO, Sc 20.
R6-10: Sc 20.
R11: In FLO, Sc 20.
R12: Hdc 20.
Fasten off and weave in the tail.
Black Stripe
Using black yarn, Ch 24.
Fasten off and leave small tails on both ends.
To attach the stripe to the hat, use the yarn needle to weave one of the small tails into the inside of the hat. Then with hot glue, apply a very small amount to the back of the chain and attach it to the hat, right above the brim. Weave in the second small tail to the inside of the hat. Add fiberfill to the hat.
Cut a small yellow rectangle for the buckle. Use hot glue to attach it to the hat, placing it over the black stripe.
Sew or use hot glue to attach the hat to the top of the head. When attaching, just make sure the hair in the back where it is attached is hidden by the hat. I made mine look like he has bangs but you can style it however you prefer before attaching the hat. Add a pair of glasses to finish the look!

Pot of Gold Bunny

Materials Needed:
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors Gold, Black, White, and Soft Rose
- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Hot glue gun
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Ears- Follow the pattern and make 2 ears in Gold.
Arms and Legs- Follow the pattern and make all 4 in Black.
Tail- Follow the pattern and make the tail in Black.
Assemble the ears, arms and legs exactly as the pattern states.
Body
Follow rounds 1-9 of the original pattern, using gold yarn. Change to black yarn after completing round 9 then continue with what is stated below. Fasten off the gold yarn.
Tip! Add a stitch marker to the back loops of the first and last stitch when making R10A.
R10A: In FLO, Hdc 42.
R10B: In BLO, Sc 42.
R11: Sc 9, ch 8 then skip 3 stitches, sc 18, ch 8 then skip 3 stitches, sc 9. (42 sts- includes the 6 total skipped stitches. Does not include the 16 total ch stitches.) This creates the handles.
R12: Sc 42, making sure to single crochet into the 3 skipped sts on both sides. Just make sure the handles are in front of the hook when crocheting into those skipped stitches.
Follow rounds 13-24 of the original pattern to complete the body. Add the safety eyes between rounds 12 and 13, 6 stitches apart. Use white yarn to outline the outside of the eyes so they stand out.
Gold Coins- Make as many as you’d like!
Use gold yarn for all coins. Use the clean fasten off method in the notes section to make a clean finish on the coins.
Small- I made 5
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Medium- I made 1
R1: 5 sc in magic ring. (5 sts)
R2: Inc in each st around. (10 sts)
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Large- I made 1
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
R2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
With hot glue, attach the coins all over the top of the body. I placed the large coin in between the ears then stacked the medium and a small coin slightly on top. Place the remaining small coins in various places.

Unicorn Bunny

Materials Needed:
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors White, Soft Rose, Lippy, Sunny Day, Citron, and Sea Green, Michaels Craftsmart in the colors Orange and Mushroom, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in the color Amethyst
- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Pet slicker brush
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Follow the entire pattern exactly as stated, making all the pieces in White. The only modification was the placement of the eyes. I positioned mine between rounds 11&12, 6 stitches apart.
Assemble the ears, arms, legs and tail AFTER the horn and hair have been added. Position them exactly as the pattern states.

Horn
Using mushroom yarn,
R1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6 sts)
R2: Sc 6.
R3: *Sc 1, inc* 3 times. (9 sts)
R4-9: Sc 9.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Add fiberfill to the horn, making sure to not overstuff!
With straight pins, pin the horn between rounds 2-5 of the body, making sure it’s centered above the safety eyes. Use the yarn needle to sew the horn into place. Secure with a knot and hide inside the body.
Hair
You will need four strips of each color, with each piece measuring 8 inches long.
To attach the hair, you’ll insert the hook under the stitches for the noted round, fold your piece of yarn in half, lay the middle of it over the hook and pull the hook through, but not all the way. With the loop on one side and the two tails on the other, pull the tails through the loop and pull to tighten.
Tip! Use a smaller hook so the stitches don’t stretch when inserting the hook.
When I attach the strands of hair, for the two on the left I insert my hook from right to left, placing these two strands next to each other, but in different rows. Then with the other two strands of that same color for the right side, I insert my hook from left to right.

Color Order
Add the pink yarn (Lippy) right behind the horn. Two strands will go over the magic ring (R1). The other two strands will go over round 2, closer to the horn.
Add two orange strands between rounds 1 and 2. Then directly underneath, between rounds 2 and 3, add the other two orange strands.
Add two yellow (Sunny Day) strands between rounds 3 and 4. Then directly underneath, between rounds 4 and 5, add the other two yellow strands.
Add two green (Citron) strands between rounds 5 and 6. Then directly underneath, between rounds 6 and 7, add the other two green strands.
Add two blue (Sea Green) strands between rounds 7 and 8. Then directly underneath, between rounds 8 and 9, add the other two blue strands.
Add two purple (Amethyst) strands between rounds 9 and 10. Then directly underneath, between rounds 10 and11, add the other two purple strands.
This is how it should look once all strands are attached.
With a yarn needle, pick apart each strand of yarn. This takes a little time, but I promise it’s worth it! I found doing this makes it SO much easier to brush the yarn and doesn’t pull the stitches as much. Once all the yarn is separated, use the pet slicker brush to comb through all the yarn. I left the pink section as bangs for the unicorn. Brush the rest of the colors together to blend the yarn. Trim to desired length, if needed.
If you’ve never brushed a crocheted piece before, check out the video tutorial below. Step by step photos are under the video.
Hearts
Use Lippy, Sunny Day, and Sea Green to make 3 hearts on the body. Position these over rounds 17 and 18, following the “V” shape of the stitches.

Yarn Ball Bunny

Materials Needed:
- Yarn- I used Michaels Loops & Threads Impeccable in the colors Sea Green, Pale Gray, and Soft Rose
- Size E/3.5mm Crochet Hook
- 1 pair of black 9mm safety eyes
- Pipe cleaner- measuring 2.5 inches
- Optional- Hot glue gun
- Plus all other materials listed in the original pattern
Follow the entire pattern exactly as stated, making all the pieces in Sea Green. The only modification was the placement of the eyes. I positioned mine between rounds 11&12, 6 stitches apart.

Wrapped Yarn
For the extra yarn that I wrapped around the bunny, all I did was chain a really long piece. Mine ended up being 9 feet long! This is something that is mindless and goes by fast. No need for counting! The length of this will vary depending on how much you want to wrap around the bunny. You can always pin the starting end of the chain piece onto the bunny, wrap it around, and if you need more length, continue adding chain stitches until you have your desired length.
Once you are happy with how long the chain is, secure one end to the bunny. Then begin wrapping around in all different directions, as if you would if winding a ball of yarn. Once finished, tuck the tail end under a few of the strand pieces.
Crochet Hook
Using pale gray yarn,
R1: 5 sc in magic ring. (5 sts)
R2-13: Sc 5.
Fasten off and leave a tail for closing the piece.
Before closing the piece, insert the pipe cleaner. I found it easier to insert a chopstick into the piece to open it up a bit and then add the pipe cleaner. The pipe cleaner should fit all the way in but if a little sticks out, just trim it. Use the yarn needle to close the piece. Weave this same yarn tail about halfway up through the hook and use it to sew the hook to the arm. Alternatively, you can glue it to the arm. To make the actual hook, bend the tip of the piece near round 3.
