Hello friend! I’m so excited about today’s post! I’ve teamed up with one of my favorite yarn brands, Hobbii, to bring you a yarn review. When they reached out asking if I’d like to review some new yarn, I of course had to say yes! I love trying out new yarns that I normally wouldn’t pick up for my everyday projects.

For my yarn review, I’ll be talking about the different yarns I chose, their contents, how much they cost, and the color options. I’ll also give some pros and cons for each yarn that I think are worth mentioning. At the end, I’ll give an overall rating for each yarn on a scale of 1 to 10 skeins. 1 being skip this yarn and 10 being you need this in your stash!

This is a cotton polyester blend yarn, with silver metallic polyester twisted with the cotton to create a unique shimmer effect. I’ve always enjoyed working with the Rainbow 8/4 Cotton so when I spotted the glitter version, I knew I wanted to try it out. After starting a simple magic ring, I wasn’t sold or impressed by this yarn. I was finding that the metallic stand would come away from the cotton yarn, making it difficult to work with. I can’t see myself using this to finish a larger amigurumi project.
Colors shown here L to R are: Optic White Silver (001), Red Silver (058), Christmas Red Silver (86), Sage Green Silver (098), Jungle Green Silver (100)
◦ Pros
It’s affordable, super soft even with the metallic strand.
▫ Cons
Difficult to work with, only comes in 9 colors, and with those colors there isn’t much variety.

Rainbow Cotton has been one of my favorite yarns for a few years now. It’s a 100% natural fiber yarn, extremely soft, and comes in SO many different colors. Rainbow Cotton is available in 3 different sizes, 8/4 which is a Fingering weight, 8/6 which is a Sport weight, and 8/8 which is a DK weight. I always go for the 8/4 version so trying out the 8/8 was definitely a big difference. It’s an 8 ply yarn compared to the 4 ply I’m used to so it was much thicker to work with, especially with a smaller hook. My hands and wrists definitely started cramping which I wasn’t expecting.
I decided I wanted to try to make my cockatiel pattern from my book, Animal Amigurumi Adventures Volume 2. Let’s just say my excitement fell quite quickly after completing just the yellow part of the body. I encountered 3 rejoins within the one skein so I was constantly tying knots. This wouldn’t have bothered me but seeing how this was my first time ever trying the 8/8 yarn, I was pretty disappointed. I think I’ll be sticking to the 8/4 from now on.
None of the other skeins had the rejoins so I’m not sure what was wrong with the light yellow one. This is just something to be mindful of. The colors used for my cockatiel were Pastel Yellow (053), Silver Gray (014), Burnt Orange (066). I used Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in Light Peach (048). You could easily sub this for the 8/8 Apricot (065).
◦ Pros
Soft cotton yarn that comes in lots of colors at a great price. Pieces work up super sturdy with the 8/8 version, making it nice for amigurumi because it holds its shape wonderfully.
▫ Cons
Knots in skein, I found the 8ply a little hard to work with as sometimes my hook wouldn’t catch one of the strands.

I was a little skeptical of trying this yarn because it’s 100% wool and just from the feel of the skein, thought it was scratchy and wouldn’t work well for amigurumi. To my surprise, this yarn is an absolute joy to work with! It’s labeled as a worsted weight yarn but I think it could definitely be a dk weight. While it’s not super soft like a cotton yarn, the texture and colors make up for it. Hobbii offers this yarn in 50 different shades so it’s great for all sorts of projects. Y’all know amigurumi is my main focus so I like to pick and use yarns that I know can work well and this one definitely does!
I also want to mention something cool about the Friends yarn line. All the color numbers correspond to the same color across the entire Friends line of yarn! So if you picked up the Friends Wool in the color Cognac (17), you can go find the same Cognac (17) in the Friends Cotton line. While the colors are the exact same, it’s also worth mentioning that different types of yarn take dye differently so there could be some differences.
I made my ghost and pumpkin using this yarn and I’m really happy with how both of them turned out! I used the colors Cognac (17), Dune (07), and White (01).
◦ Pros
Great to work with, not scratchy like regular wool, lots of colors to choose from especially within the Friends line.
▫ Cons
Feels smaller than a worsted weight yarn, not much in the skein but for a 100% wool yarn this is a great price!

Honey Bunny Shine

Number of colors options- 12

Honey Bunny is a crowd favorite amongst amigurumi makers, myself included. While I don’t typically grab for plush yarn when designing, it is fun to use it occasionally to make bigger plushies.
Honey Bunny Shine is the same as Honey Bunny with one difference- GLITTER! Sprinkled within the yarn are tiny flecks of silver glitter, although subtle, it adds a fun little sparkle to the yarn and project.
I knew I wanted to try out an ocean themed amigurumi, so I went to my book Animal Amigurumi Adventures Volume 1 and grabbed the Manta Ray pattern. This yarn was perfect for my project, and I absolutely love how chunky and cute it turned out. I used the colors White (01) and Cool Blue (78).
◦ Pros
Shine aspect is subtle but a nice touch, plushies turn out super cute!
▫ Cons
Selection of colors is disappointing. Regular Honey Bunny comes in 36 colors and the Shine version only has 12. This makes it quite hard to choose a project because they don’t have certain colors.

Number of colors options- 34

This is a super soft and plush yarn, just like Honey Bunny. I find these two yarns to be extremely similar and have used them together in one project without an issue. The only difference I see is the amount of colors both yarns come in and the price.
Baby Snuggle is great for making plush amis but it’s also great for blankets or some home accessories like pillows. I already have my project picked out for these pretty shades of purple. I’ll be making the hippo from my book Animal Amigurumi Adventures Volume 2. If you want to make your own, the colors I’m using are Pastel Purple (04) and Purple (33).
◦ Pros
Great color options, super soft yarn, endless pattern ideas! Can be mixed with the Honey Bunny yarn meaning you have way more colors to choose from.
▫ Cons
Popular so certain colors do tend to be sold out more than others, can be trickier to work with if you’ve never used plush yarn before.
